So here's how it works in my family: We submit our personal information to a marriage bureau. It has our personal information as well our horoscope based on Indian Astrology. The matchmaker, who sets up the marriage bureau, finds matches based on our horoscope and other criteria that we set. We then contact each other and see if we are compatible. If we are, then we start seeing each other for a few months until we are sure we want to marry them. The parents are the ones who take care of the initial stages, as they care about the religion and sects to which the bride/groom belong to. But yeah, it's not like my parents force me to marry someone. I still have the say in the end.
