Lots of reasons. Not many of them that good, IMO.
For one, they can be testing you to see how truly interested you are -- and that you're not just a horn dog looking to score with the easiest slut. (Not you, Sheik.
) Or they could be not so interested to begin with.
Alternatively, it could be you. If you're showing too much interest, she could be trying to cool things off on your end and not show you too many signals.
I dunno. I generally came to the conclusion long ago that men and women who play games with each other that much -- i.e., "I'm more aloof than you. Your turn to come here." rather than, "This is horsecrap, I like hanging out with you." -- doesn't bode well for any future. Who wants a potential future relationship with someone based on playing games and not being honest with each other?

IMO, that isn't a horrible thing to do once in a while. Bappu Gandhi may have fucked over his wife by going celibate on her without even discussing it, but I understand the notion of clearing your head of all that once in a while.
