I can't claim to truly understand either.

The main odd thing about football related suicide is what you posted: what about the club's future successes?
I wasn't saying that they will definitely have success in the future. Nothing is certain. But there is always that possibility for something that was once great, to be great again. Every year could be "the year". It's a rush, looking forward to the next season. New players, new coaches, new tactics. All that is as much of a reason to be a fan as the overall success of a club. Or at least that's how I see it. To rob yourself of that, seems against the trend.

It's not even big successes.

Aberdeen were truly awful last season, but there are still various moments I look back upon fondly.

The kick one gets out of a 93rd minute equaliser away from home in a Cup QF is still a thrill.

I heard somewhere that 8/10 people who attempt suicide and fail are glad they failed when they look back on it.
I can easily believe it.
