Ah, but there's nothing funnier than the guy who gets on the high horse of intellectual elitism, only to be clueless about his own ignorance of the bigger picture at large at which he's railing against.
It's as if a guy went off on a high-minded article ranting about why everyone around the globe is so afraid of the Chinese, because when you look at them they are so short in stature. Just clueless about the broader context that makes him look like a moron.
If you watch or read his stuff a lot he points out how he does exactly what he stands against.
Its a problem i run into a lot with my humanist ideologies when i get into heated debates - to hold these ideologies then you have to essentially become a hypocrite to get them out there. My get out clause if that i will tolerate anything but intolerance.
Just take it as it is. A funny article about media furore about something they really shouldn't be making a fuss about and then a reaction from the public that has no real reason to make a reaction.
Do you guys have super injunctions in the US? They are so ridiculous, whats even more ridiculous is that a sportsman's private life should be reported to the media, there is no public interest in that. Fucking cynical industry

I just came across the Eater Web site this morning and discovered they have a weekly column that transcribes the weekly dreams of various celebrity chefs and other culinary personalities. So there are people who give this same obsessive footballer treatment to people who make rack of lamb for a living. What does that say? For one thing, it says it's certainly not just football culture.
