Rain, shine -- doesn't matter all that much. The power goes out in India several times a day, and people don't even notice.

India is a country with a weak central government but entrepreneurial fringes. So there are complete failures to deliver the centralized basics reliably at times -- electricity, water, even roads -- so these private markets develop to fill in the gaps. People who sell generators, water, etc. So even the newest buildings are losing central power all the time but frequently shifting over to internal generator power. And back and forth.

It's kind of a trip to an outsider. But you gotta admire how people find a way to make a buck filling the gaps.

Ive never seen a power cut in pune or mumbai if it rains, unless ofcourse if something blows up.

Then again we have the most expensive electricity rates in all of india
The first things to go in a severe weather or other situation is the cell phone lines

    Define "expensive."

What you just described, Sheik, is called "India".
So an American is telling a Indian who's lived in India all his life what India is? :disagree:

It's just an excuse for teh govt. to cut power. Like a tree fell on power lines and cut it, or a transformer short-circuited. It's just not done blatantly, and there are many instances where I've had power while it rained all night long. It's very irregular and intermittent.

Well we do notice. And people are speaking against it. So it's actually got better than before. But I agree with the filling the gaps point.
The first things to go in a severe weather or other situation is the cell phone lines
I've never experienced that. It works without a hitch when it rains.

    That sucks.

    And the Kevin thing:

I heard that the government cut all the cell phone lines during 26/11
    Why would they do that?

    Yea I meant Mumbai

It wasn't just Colaba. My cousins live in Vile Parle and they said that the lines were cut all over the metro

Due to the terrorist attacks that day?
    I don't know, don't ask me...
To prevent widespread panic, also the news travels slower so media outlets can't report the situation as fast. It didn't matter because the police never had the situation under control until the damage was already done.
    Seems relatively logical.

People here would shit a brick if the government even thought of doing such a thing. Think of every organized group (political or not) raising hell - including the original 9 members of the Wu-Tang Clan
