What's the deal if it rains?

Rain, shine -- doesn't matter all that much. The power goes out in India several times a day, and people don't even notice.

India is a country with a weak central government but entrepreneurial fringes. So there are complete failures to deliver the centralized basics reliably at times -- electricity, water, even roads -- so these private markets develop to fill in the gaps. People who sell generators, water, etc. So even the newest buildings are losing central power all the time but frequently shifting over to internal generator power. And back and forth.

It's kind of a trip to an outsider. But you gotta admire how people find a way to make a buck filling the gaps.

It's just an excuse for teh govt. to cut power. Like a tree fell on power lines and cut it, or a transformer short-circuited. It's just not done blatantly, and there are many instances where I've had power while it rained all night long. It's very irregular and intermittent.
