Sounds like academics is your only hope. I had an old housemate who was getting his PhD at Berkeley to do just that. He became an expert on dead languages, reading everything from sagas written in Old Icelandic and Old Norse to stuff I can't even get my head around.
I think it is. The only problem is actually having to talk to other people and teach, instead of being left to your own devices to do your own research. I'll get over it, though. Old Norse/Icelandic would be really interesting, all of those viking and house gnome stories.

Gnomes? Mostly it sounded like stories of vanquishing thine enemies. Tormenting women and hurling rocks. The kind of stuff I'd actually like to hear from the Juve front office more these days.
