It's not in good taste imo. The purpose of a center as that is not just to facilitate the existing Muslims in the area but to reach out to the community. Most of the community doesn't want you there and your existence two blocks from the fallen towers are a constant reminder to people who associate Islam with terrorism.
but to me that is the point in building it, it makes a statement about islam and how practicing muslims dont behave like that. Whilst i dont agree with the concept of organised religion i hate stupidity as well and whilst religion is about people should be educated about it, seperating groups and cultures is what caused the attacks in the first place, no point carrying it on.

Main urdu main samjahun? Eller på svenska kanske?
next we ll ask muslims in NYC to change their name and the way they dress as to not offend new yorkers, and even if the opposing view had any moral ground to oppose this(it doesnt) it would revert positions on the mere fact this is used by political bloodsuckers to serve their own agenda.

No no no. This is not about being ashamed of being a Muslim or having any ties to it. This is not even an admission of guilt. It's about reaching your goals without offending anyone because that's just counter productive.

How are you going to reach out to people if you piss them off? There are Mosques and Islamic Centers scattered all over the country, are they suffering in some way? Will this Islamic Center 2 blocks from Ground Zero succeed where others have not? No, it'll be just another center only clouded with controversy.

How long after Dec 7 1942 did we begin selling Japanese vehicles in the US?:D

What about the muslims that died during 911? We have this picture of 911 victims being white middle class people, when that's far from the case. People tend to ignore that.

Anyway, it's got a culinary school and a swimming pool so that's good enough for me.

That's even dumber. An outreach center would make a lot more sense.

Anyway I'm looking it at this from a perspective of an insider. You tolerant liberals are looking at it from the outside and I respect that :D
