Jeez, I just heard there was a package left outside the main police station in town this morning that contained something that was suspected of being anthrax. It wasn't in the end but I didn't hear a thing about it for hours.

How is that benefiting the U.S. Military tho? Is it because we are friendly with the major produces over there?

First of all Opium addiction is destroying the lives of millions of Afghan citizens, even entire families, living in rural villages. Meanwhile, allowing this policy to continue is basically condoning flooding the market with large quantities of cheap low quality heroin and since the U.S. consumes an overwhelming percentage of the world's elicit drugs most of it ends up on our shores or in Mexico to be smuggled over the border. It seems like a lose lose situation to me so I can't fathom why the military won't take action.

I don't know about that, I think the Military's reasons are alot more selfish. In some regions of Afghanistan, areas that we are heavily involved in, farming opium accounts for almost 70% of the population's livelihood. If the military burned all of the poppy fields then half the country would be attacking them.

So at home we continue to pay the price for our continued presence overseas.
