I grew up in Sweden. I don't know Finnish but a few of my friends were half Finns.

One of my best friends is going to Sweden for a while (to study it seems), just informed me today. I`ve been in Stockholm for quite a few times (and in Halmstad for once), but the USA, that "God" seems to bless so much, is still on my list of unvisited countries.

I actually tried to get (with my friend) two tickets for subway when in Stockholm, but we ended up with 20 tickets. I always thought that Åland is just a crappy island, but after I spend a wild night out there last summer my mind suddenly changed.
So your Finnish is just about as limited as my Swedish (although I have "studied" it for don`t know how many years now). I can say that "Jag heter "Lapa" och jag bor i Esbo" or I can ask "När går nästa buss till Slussen". Well, I wouldn`t have done much better than that for sure.
It`s just the fact that everybody here are forced to studie Swedish and it just kills all the motivation. It`s a whole another case with English since it`s actually something you gonna need, no matter where you live...
