Since I'm feeling lazy today, and in the mood to screw around in front of a computer screen, I did a little looking around to see when was the last time Saturn transited conjunct US natal Neptune while Uranus was make a square or opposition to that point at the same time.
Obviously, Saturn transits 24 degrees Virgo every 28-30 years, but the only instance I could find in which there was also a Uranus involvement (a Uranus square from 20 degrees Gemini) was on September 6, 1862. This was, of course, during the American Civil War. September 5, 1862, is the date of the Confederacy's first invasion of the North. Uranus involvement is not exact, as it is on the upcoming date of September 12, 2009.
My thinking would be that this first invasion of the North would have been a psychologically powerful event. It also makes me want to re-think that favoritism for the Gemini-rising chart which puts Neptune in the fifth. Neptune in the ninth in the Sag-rising chart would indicate a reality check (Saturn) and a stunning and unexpected challenge (Uranus) to the US federal government (ninth) and sanctity of the union as a deeply held value system. Interesting that the Uranus challenge came from Gemini.
This September the Uranus challenge will come from Pisces--two fish swimming in opposite directions--and interesting that the Neptune affliction is coming from Neptune's own sign.
The last time Saturn contacted the US natal Neptune with significant afflictions (but not Uranus afflictions) was during November/December, 1773.
Here's the way this 1773 period looks to me:
The Saturn contact with US natal Neptune occurred on November 21, 1773, with no exact afflictions (though Neptune was within the orb of conjunction and Jupiter within the orb of opposition). Here's what was going on at that time:
Quote:
"The first cargo ships bearing East India Company tea began arriving in Boston Harbor in November, 1773, with a ship named Dartmouth leading the way. The Sons of Liberty, a secret organization of Americans who were the strongest proponents of anti-government actions, confronted Boston port authorities and demanded that the tea not be unloaded from Dartmouth or from two other ships which arrived in the harbor, Eleanor and Beaver. The three ships' captains, mindful of what awaited them on shore should they unload their cargo, agreed to leave the tea on board their ships and return to England. However, Massachusetts governor Thomas Hutchinson intervened, ordering the harbor blocked and the three ships held in port. Large crowds numbering in the thousands began to appear on the docks, some demanding a series of meetings with representatives of the East India Company and Governor Hutchinson. The meetings accomplished little beyond showing how many people in the Boston area were fed up with Parliament and the Crown."
By December 4, 1773, Saturn was at 25 degrees Virgo--within one degree of orb of US natal Neptune, while Mars had moved to 25 degrees Sag, to square this contact. So you can see that people were spoiling for a fight over this tea issue.
The Boston Tea Party was on December 16, 1773.
Just from looking at US natal Neptune transits, it looks like the Tea Party took place some days after these transits had basically waned. You would figure the Tea Party would have occurred on December 5th or 6th. I'm thinking that there were transits to other US natal planets on the 16th that triggered events. I can't look right now, as my computer will only allow me to open just so many Acrobat files at the same time.
Anyway, these two time frames are the only times I'm seeing Saturn conjunct US natal Neptune at a time when there are other significant squares or oppositions.
FWIW, it looks like this conjunction (if with significant afflictions) can make people kind of ****y; at the very least, it seems to bode something startling coming from some quarter.
