Sure did. The problem is though if we let GM go bankrupt, that means jobless claim doom pretty quickly. We're talking about 3,000,000 jobs here. If that happens, things will spiral out of control quicker than ever before.

But then again, GM is turning into a zombie company with no apparent hope for the future. So either way, we be screwed.

Speculation that I've heard suggests that you need a national industry to meet the demands of the market, so that means if GM goes bust most likely it will be sold for parts and new management takes over. So that means a lot of jobs would probably remain.

In the long run perhaps, but nobody will want to buy out a toxic company that might not be able to make a profit any time soon. What could happen is that foreign manufacturers move into more plants here, but it remains to be seen due to the union factor. Nobody likes the union keeping wages artificially high.
