So what's wrong with it?
It's guilt by association of usage, epitomized by the insular creation of language constructs to celebrate anti-social nerddom for the sake of anti-social nerddom. Like wearing a Meatwad T-shirt, or talking about how carrying your laptop to a cafe makes you a new bedouin -- when any desert-living nomad would spit in your face over the misplaced, clueless idiocy of such a statement.

The Comic Book guy is most entertaining on The Simpsons. But he shouldn't be aspirational.

@Blondu:

Some say we have the best organization in all of sports, and I agree with them. It takes years to build a great team and Pittsburgh has time on their side. Good fan base, great young talent, somewhat savvy businessmen, certainly could be a scary team in the next decade. They won't trade Malkin and Crosby.

How is "meme" a language construct made to celebrate anti-social nerddom? And if you reject its claim to be a scientific term, then what other word would you use in its place?

    the thing is...you had/have and will have a leader in a team, a true captain...we do not...with all my penguin heart i do not see sid as a leader(maybe i'm expecting him to be more like lemieux)..but he is young and i am a bit harsh on him..time will tell. good luck in the west :)

    It would be one thing if it was used in the context of Richard Dawkins. As with bedouin, it's an attempt to shoehorn something in the vernacular that attempts to mean something else because it might possibly sound informed and educated.

    But the tell-tale sign is when people use the word "meme" and yet have never heard of Richard Dawkins. Then that's not aspiring to the nerd ethic at all (of building upon knowledge) -- it's just commandeering and bastardizing a term in a vain attempt to sound remotely educated, but farcically doing so on a foundation of blissful scientific ignorance.

    In other words: it's a sham of talking the talk, and yet knowing nothing of which you speak.
