They got all their best ideas from Sons & Daughters and only do it half as well.
I agree with you that the show started very well, then went down hill. The second season isn't as good as the first one. Plenty of the plots has been done before. They are slacking after their first season success.

P.S I was told about Dexter, is it any good?

I've heard great things about it but never got into it yet. Someday.

Meanwhile, although Sons & Daughters had a major influence on Modern Family, I'm a weird guy. Almost nobody heard of that show and it lasted only 11 episodes. But it was arguably one of the best family comedies on TV in past decade in the U.S. I like the occasional odd thing, though.

And whereas Modern Family tries too hard in its scripting, Sons & Daughters was so deadpan it didn't have a laugh track.

Dexter is great. The constant Drama gets starts to get old and his sister is one of the most annoying characters I've ever seen on a tv show but overall it's pretty damn entertaining.

I haven't seen S&D, but it does sound like a great show. Regarding Modern Family, this season hasn't been up to standards. No originality in the ideas.
So you haven't missed anything.

I will give it a try probably on the weekend. After Prison Break, I kind of hated all action/drama shows. Fox writers just destroyed my love to such shows
