Reading about how some guy in Naples was shot in the head accidentally whilst watching a fireworks display (good time to shoot someone after all). North Face and Columbia used to sell completely top quality gear. The still do (sell some quality stuff), but the lesser expensive stuff tends to wear faster. I got a couple pairs of pants and a fleece a couple years ago and I only have one pair of pants left.

I guess it depends on what you do. If you use it for everyday wear, then it's probably cool.

It's been interesting to see the evolution from North Face -> Sierra Designs -> Mountain Hardware. Employees keep abandoning the parent company when it gets too big and start working for the new, competitive offshoot.

Lately I've been buying stuff from Capestorm though -- since a lot of my outdoor gear needs have been while I'm in South Africa.

Mountain Hardware is owned by Columbia. Just owned though, it still runs as an independent company as it was prior to 2003.
