as of late i found out that i don't run many apps on my (personal)comp anymore.

besides files explorers and a media player, some office apps from time to time but thats it. i mostly do my deeds online so perhaps that would be a good reason to change? i know alot of ppl's concern is the migration of using certain apps on a proprietary OS

Yeah that helps of course. There's many different ways of coming at it, but to me the most obvious one is a technical interest. If you're a technical person then presumably you have an interest in technology and it would be a little weird for a technie no have no interest in exploring technology. Aside from being fun, it makes you smarter, more resourceful. All of these proprietary companies want to lock down everything and basically the only thing you can learn from it is look at the gui and see what buttons are available to you (to make a small over simplification). The linux world is radically different, you can see how things work, it's eye opening.

Does your college have a soccer team? Is there any interest in soccer at the college level?
Yes we do, they're not a bad team, one of the top 25 soccer schools in the nation. There is some interest and I go to some matches, but obviously there isn't as much interest as there is for our American football team. Most live and breathe American football here.
