That's not a valid argument.

If you support the Italian National team even if you are not the least bit Italian, you might as well believe in the Tooth Fairy. Why? Because you're living in a land of fantasy. You're trying to experience something that is not possible to you and not even applicable to you, considering you have no stake in Italy as a nation, and don't have citizenship.

What happens to fans like Fabiana is that they claim they support their own nation's football, but find themselves rooting for the Azzurri far more considering that side competes in more competitions. So after a sufficient period of time, fans like her become conditioned to expect very little from their own side, not supporting them to full effect. They might not know it, but their support of Italy will eventually overtake that of their own nation because that is what they are used to. In Venezuela, they're conditioned to accept mediocrity, and since that is what they expect, that's what they get. And the tune never changes.

Instead of wasting time supporting a nation you have no ties to, strive to make the football in your country better.
There is nothing that hasn't been said that can be again. I like the Azzurri FOOTBALL TEAM and am not supporting the country. I don't have to like Italy, the country (I do, but that's not the point).

I knew the Azzurri as the first football team I ever really paid attention to by casually watching some match on TV, before I even liked football, or even Juventus. Now, I casually like the Azzurri, but am not passionate like I am with Juve. I also still support T&T, more by growing on them although I no longer feel patriotic about my country. i don't even think patriotism is sensible (but to each his own!).

My support of the Italian national team in soccer will never be stronger than my support for my own country. That's just BS
It is not BS. You probably have not said one single thing about the Venezuelan national team on this forum while all you do is make posts in the Azzurri thread and attach pictures of Cannavaro lifting the World Cup. You hardly do any supporting of your nation on here.

To me, that's quite revealing. You don't even make the effort on here. How can one believe you make the effort to support your nation elsewhere?

Patriotism is very sensible insofar as sporting and wanting to improve your own well-being. It's sport, not war or politics or false flag attacks.

My issue with Andrew's argument is that it is too radical. Its either black or white for him. There are no gray shades or in betweens.

I agree in a sense. It's fun to have your own team to support. And you do feel pride when they do well, because it's part of you whether you like it or not. I guess that's why I still support T&T NT despite being disenchanted with the country. But when I started "supporting" Italy, it was innocent. I didn't even know they were a big team. In fact, I only knew Totti and he was my favourite player

In my 20000+ posts here there are some about the Venezuelan NT. Don't make me look them up. And of course I support my nation in sports, culture and care about what's going on in my country which I love. You of all people know that and I shouldn't be having to explain myself to you on this subject like I am right now.

Of course its way more exciting to see your country perform in a big competition. It was awesome last year to see the Vzlan sub 20 team beat Tahiti (haha) 10-0 in the sub 20 WC

I do know you. Quite well, I might add. And your support for Italy's football far trumps that of yours for Venezuela. I didn't want to say it, but you brought it up.

I will admit you do care a lot about your nation's politics.

Its sad you don't know me in real life because that wrong idea you have of me liking Italy more than my country would change. But I am done justifying myself and you can think whatever you want to.
