Agreed about the ones that really have no idea about smoking, about it damages to themself and to others, who dont think even think about what they are actually doing.
It's not even about the health risk. I'm sick of that debate. It's well established that there is direct harm. But that's not what annoys me. What annoys me is a lack of respect for other people's personal space. When I get on public transport I don't step on people's toes or shove them aside, or yell in people's faces. It's one thing what we do alone, but when we're confined to a common space we have to demonstrate some basic civility.
Would you mind if someone smokes at his home privately?
Do I care if someone smokes some place I'll never be? No, I don't.
More generally, I do care what happens to non smokers who are stuck with smokers, this is a serious problem. Kids with parents who smoke for instance.
Or if the smoker takes care where he smokes and tries as hard as possible not to cause second hand smoke?
There are some people like this, and perhaps this is the trend as people get more aware of how they affect others. I expect it lowers the enjoyment factor and pushes them closer to quitting, which is always a good thing. In the end the thing to realize is that smoking is basically an antisocial activity (unless you are in the company of smokers exclusively).
