Yikes, so totalitarian. So theoretically the caller can insist on keeping you on the line for 14h and you can't hang up?
Yes. One of the main rules of customer service is not to disconnect the call from our end while the issue is not resolved. That's just rude. But we need to be smart enough to not make the customer stay on for such a long time on teh call.

btw, the longest call i've taken is for 4 hours. And i took 2 of those calls on teh same day, and my day wa over! :crosseyed:

@Zé Tahir: I was using Dheeraj first, but i changed it to Raj many months ago as it's a common name and people can better understand it. Some people thought it was 'Rog' or 'Roger' a few times, and sometimes, they thuoght i was a girl.

For bathroom visits, i place them on hold few a few mins. But sometimes, i've ended the call, took a break, and called them back and resolved the issue. I usually do it when i'm downloading the software and i'll take about 30 mins or so.

btw, one other way i dump customers is by promising to call them back after a few mins, and not calling them back! :D I did that on Tuesday when it was too late and i had to catch my cab back home.

Oh, word. Well a nick or short is fine, but I find it funny when I call customer service and the person is clearly in India but he tells me his name is Steven...it happens too often and I can't believe call centers are loaded with christian Indians :D

Btw, be more careful when you speak with Martin. The guy has a knack for asking you questions to your death :p

Crazy. So do you hate phones now or love them all the more?
No opinion. They are pretty important for maintaining communication, but i hardly talk on my cellphone a lot.

Biggest reason they do that is cos their Indian names are something that the customer has never heard about. It's supposed to make them feel comfortable or sumtin, but it clearly doesnt work in your case. You're familiar with Indian names, but not all Americans are, so it's different for them.

Actually, I'd enjoy speaking to Martin. As long as he doesnt ask n00b questions, i can tolerate him. I'd actually consider it a challenge. But i know there's very little change of that happenin, cos he's not in the US :p

EDIT: Sorry i told so long. I was explaining to a customer that his printer is out of warranty, and i cant fix it without charging him! :D
