How many courses did you take in Oracle and AWS ? Do you prefer Bootcamp or online courses like Udemy?
I completed a Bachelor of Information Technology degree at La Trobe University in Melbourne. During my studies I was exposed to software development, network engineering, business analysis - but I really fell in love with databases so by my 3rd year I was picking all of the database subjects.
After uni graduation I was fortunate to find a Junior DBA role, and my employer provided lots of training for Oracle DBA certification.
Like most technical areas in IT you need to keep your skills up to date, so I self-study and complete the latest relevant cert every 3-4 years (for the commerical databases). For open-source products like PostgreSQL, there are no certs, so I just focus on learning through real-world experiences / reading blogs, and hands-on labs using VirtualBox.
I use certification as a framework to learn. It's all about the learning journey and not the destination/piece of paper.
May I ask about your skill and the level of proficiency that you are in Linux?
Do you work with Linux services or Bash Script?
Yes, very comfortable working on Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL). I do lots of bash scripting to help automate backups, maintenance tasks, etc.
