My juventuz sabatical started due to me just being tired of the normal shit that goes on here.
And then I suffered the tremendous misfortune of finding fulltime employment.
And then I got more involved in running the golf club (I'm now Greens Convener, so I get to tell the greenkeepers what changes to make to the course
).
So my return just got lost among that other stuff.
Still been watching plenty football and most Juve games.
Anything interesting been happening around here in my absence?
You must have looked like someone who lost a lot of balls.

I tend to agree. And disagree.
Sadly, they are still important and integral part of life. I wish it would change but I'm pretty sure some people would have it horribly as they can't handle themselves with so much free time.
You're a smart guy, surely not a moron, but I'll have to mention this: you gotta pay for stuff. Not only the rent and food but imagine how would people react if you took their hobbies away. I'm pretty sure it'd be a massive depressive if all of a sudden they were told not to travel or take away some (expensive) dream of theirs.
I do however believe that an individual has a lot more space for growth with free time (this shouldn't sound like I'm trying to console myself). But that too I guess can't be taken globally, as majority wouldn't know how to handle themselves as they constantly need directions. Then again, there surely are some jobs that do help people out with their mindset and make them a better person which is like 2% at the most imo. It's also quite sad when you realize the time wasted on a job, added with how much you sleep daily. Seems like throwing a major part of your life away.

Jobs can be very fulfilling. Recently I've had a couple of court cases that turned out very well for my clients and it was great to be able to help people like that. Unfortunately most of the time it's not like that. A lot of jobs are 90% bullshit, 10% substance. And people working lousy fastfood jobs just to be able to pay for their basic needs? No, that's not what we should strive for as a society.
Yeah, but I'm still working. Too many executive-level meetings this coming week, and my evening social calendar is packed with a little too much fun for any slack to get any extra done if needed. So gotta work ahead.

I remember when MLK was first recognized in Chicago, which was one of the first places in the country that did it. The local Polish went apeshit, wanting their own pet boy holiday. So they came up with Casimir Pulaski Day.
Well, it at least inspired a punk song from Steve Albini and his local boys:
"There were pieces of a man all over the skyway
There were pieces of a man
Mm mm in the ashtray"
Yeah, dat's how we Chicagoans celebrate.
This I definitely agree with. There are people who rely almost exclusively on their jobs for life's meaning. The suicide rate would go through the roof without them.
People like it fast and convenient, though. In a consumer society, we seek the shortcut of buying our personal development and growth rather than having to go through that challenging and time-consuming mess of actually earning it ourselves.
