Yeah poor people are lucky to not have to deal with things like paying bills, depression, commuting, deciding where to get lunch
Just one study, but not something I particularly agree with. End of the day people get depressed about things that they don't believe they can overcome, so poverty should be a big cause.

Happiness is a state of mind anyway.

I have a feeling that your market is probably a little less condensed than it is here in the UK.

As for depression, it's a bitch really. Takes seemingly normal people. Rich people. People are very good at hiding it. Men are also really good at killing themselves, far better than women are, apparently. As a guy I think you also take on a lot of social pressure and expectancy. I've also read in the past that it doesn't affect really poor people as much as you might expect, because they are too busy trying to survive to have time to worry.
Niche markets. Find a product for a niche market and sell it.

Santa Cruz de la Sierra is also one of the fastest growing cities in South America. I guess that helps.
