I'll go for a long walk. I'm still in bed and still in tears.
No need to be in tears man. It sucks, but just think of what you expected and thought only some months ago, just being in playoff was good enough progress, the fact that they made us dream for a bit by going this far is a clear improvement that we need to build on. There's alot of hope to be had for the near future despite the sour ending.

It's impossible not to. They had them. We had a chance of winning and showed we were not little boys you could just toy with.

Exactly Sören, end result sucks but its part of it and we need to grow and learn from this, every major loss is talked about like its the same since its the same club (not like last 3 losses where 2 of them was the same time, and third had a third of the team still around). But this is a new and inexperienced team in this level (except for 4 players, 3 of them had their experience in other clubs), and had a point to prove and to give their all no matter the result. Now they need to grow and adapt from this, and try again.

We came up against a team that is being considered among the best of all time, with a front three considered potentially the best of all time, with a player who might be the best in history alongside two others who are probably in the top 10 of all players in the sport right now. A team who has more than twice our budget, never had to come back from going down to the Segunda Division, and is now in the middle of a transfer ban for all the flashy abuses it has made recently.

And we made them shit in their pants in the second half in the European final.

Sure, you want to win it all. But before this season, people dismissed Juve as some schmuck team stuck in the rotting cesspool of Serie A who had no relevance, nor business, being considered among Europe's elite. By the end of the season, we had pundit after pundit eating their words, calling Juve a great, quality side worthy of its place and accomplishments -- even at the very final against this would-be historically legendary Barca.

When Conte took over this beleaguered club, he spoke of his mission to get Juve back some fear and respect that it had clearly lost. This season has been such a huge building block on that foundation -- extending that growth to the European stage.

And I'm ok with all that.

Greg, I feel so bad for my nephew :sigh:

He just sunk in his chair at the end of the match. I'm sitting here thinking to myself "What I have done to this poor boy?"

On the negative side, I have to say that you're preparing him for life as a juventino. The pain of losing finals is part of the fabric of our history, so get ready now.

On the positive side, you're also teaching him a valuable lesson in not being a plastic fan like so many of those who follow Barca, or Real Madrid, or whatever flavor of the year tops the jersey sales list for 6-year-olds. And that's a lifelong gift of being a true and proper sports fan -- let alone a true juventino. :)

What I'm also saying is too bad you didn't get to instruct him too much during our Serie B phase too. ;)

No matter how good your team is you always need a little luck to win. We were lucky to score when their keeper fumbled it. They were lucky to score when Buffon gave a rebound just when the match was very much in our control. It happens. We beat Real which on paper is also a better team.

By all indicators, we should have lost to Real theoretically but did not. That was such a huge step... not only to do the Capello thing and play up to the level of your competition when you're better than them, but then to exceed it.

Upsets are upsets for a reason. Unfortunately the majority of the time they don't happen if you're the underdog. The point is to position yourself so that if the cards fall your way on a good day, you can swing those odds.

Close is not enough when history looks back on this season. But we now have people saying good things about Juve, about its players, about its coach -- giving the team respect. Even Italian football, for that matter, is no longer being perceived as exclusively a defensive lock-down mindset with the occasional counterattack and little risks as if 1960s catenaccio had never gone away.
