hip hop fan? lupe for sure, a few of my friends know him personally :p But Kanye is teh biggest thing to come out of chicago as far as mainstream rappers so he got more exposure amongst non-hip hop enthusiasts
Good to know the obvious. Kanye is coming to Sweden with Jay Z, and it says alot of how I rate current Kanye when I'm going to go that solely for Jay Z part of it (who I dont rate and like that much).

One of my friends I'm going to that with acted like I said Uwe Boll is better then Kurosawa when I said I much prefer if Lupe was coming instead because he is considerably better MC. This said friend lived in chicago for a while and used cliche poser arguments of how widely rated Kanye is there over Lupe, I called BS :p Because he was talking of how Kanye is rated over Lupe as a rapper (as a producer and overall artist I got its Kanye and credit him for that). Me and rest of the others didnt get how the fuck he can think that hehe.

I hope you arent one of those hipster posers who never listened to rap and only namedrop old MCs just for the heck of it.

I prefer listening to poetry about something meaningful, one of the few modern rappers i find tollerable is Scroobious Pip, and he's heavily influenced by Mos Def, Slick Rick etc. I in general prefer music from the 70s/80s. NWA wern't bad though.

Nah you arent getting me (as usual) Martin, its not about being impressive, but being fake, I run across too many weirdoes who profess with certainty how some old rapper from the "golden age" is way better then everyone now (even if its far from the truth or not) when they never even listened to them. Just trying to act like they know shit and are "impressive" (in very obvious ways), hence hipster/poser. Its annoying and retarded, regardless of subject matter.

And since I live in Sweden, it tends to be that white attentionwhoring nerd trying to fit in :p

I know what you mean. I lived in the same building as a bunch those types. ODB died and they were all in the hallway acting sad and morose in the hallway. So I was like "what happened guys" they were like "ODB died". So I said, "Ain't no more visits to the brooklyn zoo". They were like "what". I shook my head and walked away.

You have a point except I don't know what hipster is. I haven't listened to the radio in 7/8 years and haven't watched tv for over 18 months, aside from football in the pub - So I don't get exposed to new music, by choice, and when I do it just irritates me. I could name drop a lot more with people I only know one song by, but I genuinly like slick rick, de la soul, NWA, rick james (not a rapper but i said him). I get pissy with people that try to do it with the music I love, especially the stones - cunts walking around with stones t-shirts that they got at a high street shop and can't name a song by them, even 'satisfaction'.

Both names he mentionned are legit, just saying, I got a vibe he was just mentionning em for ze heck of it hehe.
I feel similarly about today's hip hop. There's some good stuff, but a lot of it so bad, which is kind of due to the trend of popular music over the last 4-5 years.

Everyone with a brain feels the same way Aaron about todays hip hop compared to before, but there is still alot of great shit to be found, you just have to look harder for it.

And I know what you mean Jasper, like those you mentionned (except I dont think I know of Rick James music, I only know him as a briilliant chappelle sketch lol). And I dont even listen to The Stones (or their genre in general) except the random showing/airing of them on tv/radio throughout the years, but I can still name several songs of theirs, funny if someone who is wearing their shirt cant. Some artists/groups are too classic/iconic to not know about some of their material.

And Aaron, thanks for reminding me of ODB, I allways listen to this unusual for him song quite regurarly hehe, "whyyyyyyyyy do youuuuuu build me up, just to leeeeeet me down" :D

I listen to more Portuguese and even Italian rap than I listen to English rap. And much of the English rap I listen to is half mixed with Afrikaans. :p
