Differences. It might come off completely shallow, but we've been together for the better part of three months and I just can't take the final physical step with her. I might actually be on the road to falling in love with her, which will be the first time in 3 years I've had feelings for any girl - but today we sat and talked. She wants to get married in the next year or two, and doesn't really want to .. fulfill the relationship before we have a date and a ring has been put in it's place. She'd also like the first kid before she's 23. Now, I'm 20 years old and if I don't have shit to do I can barely force myself to look presentable. I enjoy playing video games for a few hours every day, go out with my friends a few times a week and get a bit pissed, I like spending 10 hours of my Saturday watching football and there just isn't room for that in the relationship she is looking for. So I decided to break it off, and now I feel pretty miserable.

Doing that, given the feelings you have for her (that you've said on here before), takes a lot of courage and empathy. You made a good decision, don't worry about her anymore - If she felt like that and you feel like you do then it demonstrates a fundamental difference between the two of you that would come back to haunt you. Speaking from horrible experience.

Who wants to know an interesting fact about me - I have been in a relationship every valentines day for the past 8 years (since I was 14) - I haven't spent the day with my partner, had a card or a present once in my life. :weee:

If I remember about this next year, I'm sending you flowers.

fair decision of you. you two are looking looking for a different kind of relationship. Better to break it off before the fighting and irritating from both parts.

That's me and every new years eve lol.

People baffle me, why would you instigate a plan to then back out the day before. I rarely ask people to do stuff because im not that interested but whenever I make plans I don't break them unless its an emergency. Why would someone ask me to go for a coffee with them etc. If they are going to back out the day before every single time? The weird thing is the two people that keep doing it used to date. the girl always used to invite me out and then back out or start texting me and not reply for days, The guy I used to live with and he was one of my closest friends at uni and he keeps saying, without me asking, that he's going to visit, so i plan accordingly and then he backs out every time. Eurgh.

People are fucking annoying.

I've given up on the day, I've given up on my birthday, christmas and new years too. I haven't enjoyed my birthday since I was 14.

15- revision course
16-revision course
17-revision course
18-ill
19-cleaning my flat to move out
20-cleaning my flat to move out and a massive falling out with my ex
21-my ex cheated on me with one of my closest friends
22-Alone in New York, having broken up with the girlfriend that for christmas had brought her a ticket to come and spend a week with me there before I came home from travelling.

Big days result in missery for me, so for me its just easier to ignore them and pretend they don't exist. I do the obligatory phone calls to my family to celebrate the fact i havent died again and thats that.

Must've been really traumatising. I can't remember my last birthday, far less the last 10 years.

Nothing but excruciating pain in the cojones after 3 hours of intense grinding without any end product, no.
At least the wank after is always good.

totally :agree: I have the same also.

I won't worry about that too much. There are worse things than being alone and happy...like being in a miserable relationship.
:agree:
I had such a relationship with my ex and are ofcourse happy that I am now alone instead of being with him. But sometimes it is hard to see couples hugging, kissing on those days while you are alone
