I am really glad sometimes I only have to do one big one a term.
I like having my marks spread out over stuff so if i cock one up i can make it up elsewhere, but my dissertation is worth 33% of my whole degree so most of this stuff can go to piss - i just need 50 from each module, plus there is only a pass and a distinction at MA in the UK 50-69 for pass and 70+ for a distinction. They are apparently considering including a merit between 60-69 but its really demotivating knowing unless i write amazingly consistently it wont make much difference to the final grade i get.

Mine is pretty much the same, you get between A+ and B-, anything less and you fail, and I see what you mean about the demotivation. Mine is a bit spread out, I have presentations, readings, etc. which count for my final module mark, but the only paper for each class is a 9,000 word dissertation. Ao far, anyway, I think there are other profs who do it differently.

Most master programs over here follow that same system. But i'm doing my masters degree in an Australian University, all you need to do is get over 50 in all courses to get your MA
