@Osman I blame you for not being able to get this one out of my head all day
Sorry? :D

He is a true poet and artist :) (comes from big tradition of poets and singers in his family) Quite playfully using a famous african proverb amongst african poets about persective of storytelling and history. The lion is hunted by humans, but the lion can't say his side of the story, so we only hear the human hunter's biased side on how he killed the lion. Basically how the subjective tale of the winner in any conflict is the only side we get to hear, its his story :p

Every time I hear the above (been a while) or read the quote, I'm reminded of the great Chinua Achebe

Talking about the purity of storytelling: "is something we have to do, so that the story of the hunt will also reflect the agony, the travail—the bravery, even, of the lions."

Used to listen a lot to him 2-3 years back actually, now tuz brought it all back with two references in two days :D

Yeah, I love how he incorperates traditional storytelling & practices into his songs, like here as well:

I've always seen it as the proverb version of "History is written by the victors" :D

With K'naan I also really like his live album, some of his songs work so much better with a "live" atmosphere imo. This one for example:

One of the baddest verses from 3K

Follow the funk from the skunk and the dank that is crunk in the dungeon
It goes on and on and on, like that
Goin out to the Jeeps and hoes in the 'Lac
Ah suki, suki
All day and day, any day, every damn day
I be thinkin about the good ol' days when I was a whippersnapper
Used to try to get a kiss, but now it be them draws I'm after
I'm just a Southernplayalistic pimp
I used to slang a fat rock, but now I'm servin hemp
I never even smoke that crumba crap but yo, I'm dope
But doper than a junky or a pooky cuz it's on
So each one, teach one, I be claimin true
Two weeks born in College Park and the things I used to do
Around ATL, home of the pimps and the money makers
Club niggaz, Magic City and them Southern playas
I never said I was a gangsta but I will do ya
So Hallelujah, Hallelujah
One for the playas at the crib, dank and dranks
And two is for the sound, Hootie Hoo that I make

Now these pussy niggas putting money on my head
Go on and get your refund motherfucker, I ain't dead
I'm the diamond in the dirt, that ain't been found
I'm the underground king and I ain't been crowned
When I rhyme, something special happen every time
I'm the greatest, something like Ali in his prime
I walk the block with the bundles
I've been knocked on the humble
Swing the ox when I rumble
Show your ass what my gun do
Got a temper nigga, go 'head, lose your head
Turn your back on me, get clapped and lose your legs
I walk around gun on waist, chip on my shoulder
Till I bust a clip in your face, pussy, this beef ain't over
