Just 1 month ago 4-3-1-2 was the Jesus Christ of our tactics and now it's universally considered shit.

I think the problem may be deeper than tactics.

in 4312 when we push both lichtsteiner and evra up to provide the width we lack, we just leave a lot of space exposed at the back. this allows the other opposition to counter-attack the hell out of us. a more balanced team would consist of 2 wingers that are hardworking as well as being agressive and 1 striker upfront like in a 433 or 4231. however if we revert back to 352 then we know we lack that attacking edge that we need but of course we will be more sure at the back. if we were to make 4312 permanent then we must make sure the fullbacks don't attack as much and also that out AM can make us for the lack of width. When milan had kaka inzaghi and shevchenko they all rotatated and caused the defence trouble. however when we have vidal (who drops back), llorente who just holds up the ball we are not going to get anywhere. We need a mobile striker like falcao and a creative attacking midfielder who likes to run like isco or firmino.

I think the main problem is our system rather than formation. We have one very isolated striker and midfielders who aren't getting in the box. Meaning that we often only have 1 player in the box and when that player is out of form then it puts a strain on the team. We are also relying on our width mainly coming from our LB and RB, who aren't creative enough to be effective and leave 2 centre backs exposed.

This has been a pattern in both 3-5-2 and 4-3-1-2 under Allegri. At least Conte's system had the midfielders/2 strikers and at times the wingbacks in the box. It wasn't always pretty but it wasn't as bad as people make out, I remember some really enjoyable performances.

I really hope 4-3-1-2 isn't the long term plan though as I do think it lacks width.

Now Beppe is thinking if they reduce the price from 20m to 7-8m this quick, I can probably get him for 2m, or Rubinho and 5 euros.

Even for 7M it's short-sighted. It's a move just to stay ahead of Roma and nothing else. It gives us little for the future.

There's no doubt that Sneijder will help us. I'd rather he get the ball at the top of the box than Pereyra. But it's a sunk cost.

To me it's a lateral move. Not quite negative but almost there. If we had money to blow I'd be in favour of it but that's not the case.
