Juventus Dream About Campbell
7/18/2004 7:11:00 PM
Juventus have been trying to sign a world class defender for last month and for a while it looked like they had managed to lure Cannavaro to Turin but with Mancini's arrival at Inter the transfer was blocked.
The new big name is Sol Campbell and the bianconeri sent their staff to London to see if there is a way to make it happen. Unfortunately for Juventus it looks impossible that the best English defender will leave Arsenal and the next target will probably be Ujfalusi.
Goal.com

I know they aren't the most reliable site (and I don't read their as frequently as channel4's or sports.it, but I think this is worth a read)

Although Ujfalusi isn't bad at all it's looking pretty grey.
Like the article is saying, Cambell to Juventus is very unlikely. Cambell is pretty good, but not a defensive general which we need to lead the mold of Leggro which will lead to Leggro performing better.

We should get a established name + Ujfalusi!

The problem is that Campbell is relucant to sign a new contract, which expires in 2005, so maybe there is a chance, and as I said, with Moggi you never know. What would have you said, if someone told you in May, that Capello would be our new coach???

btw Ujfalusi is enough. Thuram, Legrottaglie, Ferrara, Montero/Iuliano/Tudor, Zebina and Ujfalusi would be okay.
and..........Ujfalusi is a top-class defender. The captain of HSV and one of the best, if not the best defender in Bundesliga and I think he proved his worth at EURO.

Moggi will buy just one more defender. I dont care if is Canna, Campbell or Ujfalusi, as long as we bring in Emerson. Emo is the vital switch of this year transfers.
Moggi, c,mon, raise the stakes, Florentino is trying to steal Emo and this situation has become long and risky....

I won't argue with you, but I don't think that Ujfalusi belongs to one of the best defenders in the Bundesliga! I always follow the Bundesliga and HSV has a bad defense. I won't say that Ujfalisi is crap, but he isn't Juve class for me!!

Well a defense consists of 3 or 4 players, and Ujfalusi isn't the one to blame for HSV's bad season last year.

But I think he proved that he is good at EURO

From the BBC web site:-

Italian giants Juventus are also keen on signing 29-year-old Sol Campbell (Sunday Mirror).

I know this thread was closed elsewhere, but will the BBC and Sunday Mirror do as sources?

My view...he wouldn't settle in Italy.

What was it Rush said about his time there?..."It was like living in a foreign country" or something.

Good player he may be, but Campbell would struggle to get used to the way of life, like many Brits would.

Yep i agree with you their, like so many other English players i dont think Sol would be able to perform outside of his home country, the style of play in Seria A is completely different to the style of play in the Premiership and so many transactions between Seria A and EPL have been disasterous, infact the only successful one i can remember was Gianfranco Zola!!
