I don't think having an alcohol ban inside the stadium in a conservative muslim country in the Middle East can really surprise anyone?

The negativity of most of Western media on every cultural clash is odd. We don't serve alcoholic beer in the stadium I have visited over here in the NL as well :snoop:
It feels like the media is nitpicking on Qatar on everything at this point

They changed it two days before the tournament started, it's not really hard to understand.

of course, I think it’s after taking 75 million from Budweiser and then changing course two days before the event that’s the problem. if they were like “hey, it ms our culture not to drink in stadiums so we won’t have drinking in stadiums” from the beginning there wouldn’t be a problem.

then there’s the whole bribery thing, the migrant worker issue, and the not having buildings finished that are the major problems

Stop the nitpicking. It's just some cultural clash.

Referees are going to help the host so much that they reach the SF or Final. Then fanswill turn on the whole game and football will almost be dead. Then, out of the ashes of this whole carnage, a savior appears.

I dunno. I have to think about the ethos of the Olympic Games here: how sport can open international doors that politics alone cannot.

How can you be a World Cup and yet never set foot in MENA, you know?

Sure, how they won the hosting bid was corrupt. And tons of brown people died building it for their elites. And they aren't jiving with de gays let alone alcohol in the stadiums.

But come on, bruh. You cannot assume there is only one set of global rules for everybody. And those who do are arrogant, self-centered pr*cks, really. This isn't a descent into moral relativism, but maybe a society that doesn't appreciate dudes in Speedos groping each other in the streets isn't such a horror show after all. I'm even uncomfortable with good-looking heteros doing that at concerts.

Embracing diversity means just that. Not just imposing monolithic values over every culture on the planet.
Yeah, lets not do this hippy crap. Morality isn't relative and keeping women in be keeper suits, not letting them go out without male guarding isn't a new quirky fun thing either. Let's not play these stupid games.
There are hundreds, if not thousands dead while building these stadiums. There are thousands not paid for their work, which is just ridiculous, considering they are siting on a mountain of gold. Money certainly isn't an issue for them, in essence they are doing this just because they can.
Then they won't let the football fans drink a beer or have a premarital sex, threatening actual prison time.
Unless you are VIP guest. Then by all means- we will even provide beer to the VIP lounge for you.

Fuck FIFA and fuck them.
I for one will not be watching this shitfest (usually I watch all the games+ participate in virtual sticker games and fantasy football). If I won't be able to contain myself and have to watch a game or two- I will pirate it without any shame and I urge everyone to do the same.
I get that the fans want to see their teams and the players want to participate in what usually is a celebration of football. But these people (behing Quatar 2022) are terrible. If you want to watch it no one is stopping you, but these rationalizations are just sickening...
