Rubiales confirms players tried to save Lopetegui but this was not enough, solely FA's decision, he says.

I am impressed. Really really impressed. Every other FA would have just said 'well.. For once it's okay'. Not Spain though. They sacked him anyway, World Cup or not.

The Spanish FA is retarded. If you don't want your coach to take another job until the World Cup is over, put that in his contract. For fucks sake.

They are facing Portugal in 55 hours. This is a ego thing, not a result thing from the FA and the chairman.

They needed to go public to sign players.

Not really. Zidane had little input, its the worlds worst kept secret this guy will have none. All he had to say, he could have (and probably did) said to Perez in a 10 min conversation.

When RM go for a certain player the last thing on his mind would be 'who is my coach', since coaches there last much shorter time than the average contract historically.

I understand Madrid though. They couldn't wait until July 15.

Wait until July 15th to announce it officially? Sure they could've waited, you can reveal who is the coach to the players agent privately, there was no need for it to go public apart from RM being a disgusting club.

They pretty much did. He had a release clause and Madrid paid it.

No. You can't. You think you can put a confidentiality clause in a contract that doesn't include third parties who are in no way open to sanctions if they go to the press?

And then there's the fact that it would have leaked anyway, possibly complicating things even more.

It's definitely an ego thing. No one can disagree about that.

Wrong approach. Do you think this guy will get a better offer after or around the end of the WC? Even if Spain wins it with a 30-0 goal difference there simply isn't a better job than RM.

Him and RM, but more RM fucked it up pretty badly. Or someone behind the scenes ok-ed it, then reneged and stuck the knife in RM's backs. Either way - its mostly the fault of the club from Madrid.

oh it would've leaked for sure, but that doesn't matter, Spain FA didn't sack their coach because he accepted the Real job, they sacked him because he did so and they went public with it.
