looks like out of the 22 players only Salah is the player who can carry the team. I am astonished at Cuper's logic with regards to just taking one striker! i wish the 2008-2010 team was the one going to the world cup not this version.

In all honesty Matt, i haven't been following this Egyptian team closely and so i can't judge if he has the killer instincts trezgol had when he played for Juve
No doubt about that at all. We’re probably only better than, at most, 3 teams. But I still don’t expect us to get destroyed when we play you guys or Peru. Think it will be closer than you think. Dat Strayan fighting spirit

Is it me or is this the worst Australia side in quite a while? Of course you've never had a world class team, but over the years I don't remember Australia as a particularly easy opponent.

No you’re not wrong, this is easily the weakest team we’ve sent to a World Cup by far.
There’s a couple of PL regulars, and a few plying their trade in the Championship, but it’s basically a journeyman team mixed with a couple of exciting youngsters (Daniel Arzani is definitely one to look out for in the future)

O'Neill, Viduka, Kewell, Timmy Cahill, Schwarzer , pretty sure i'm forgetting a few more
Damn, Aussies were pretty solid back then
Australia vs Uruguay 2006 WC qualifier(penalty shootout) randomly popped up on my YouTube feed. That was a huge moment in Aussie football history wasnt it

You also had Bresciano and Grella who were both regular starters for Parma at the time.
And yes, that penalty shoot-out win against Uruguay was a massive, massive moment in not just Australian football but all of Aus sport. First time we qualified for the WC in 32 years. I was at the stadium in Sydney that night. The moment Aloisi put that penalty away...damn, massive, insane pop from the crowd. Good times.
That Aussie team had players playing for these teams regularly. No wonder it was a strong team for us and somewhat of a golden generation. Majority of them played in the PL back when it was the strongest league in the world too. For example
Schwarzer and Viduka - Middlesborough
Kewell- Liverpool
Emerton and Neill - Blackburn
Moore - Newcastle
Cahill - Everton
Grella/Bresciano - Parma
Kalac - Milan
Aloisi- Alaves
Culina- PSV
