Btw, what we think now really doesn't matter much. Spain lost their first match in 2010, and the Netherlands are notorious for blowing their wad in the early stages.
Teams don't want to be peaking at the WC in their first match: you have to survive long enough to be around still six matches later.
Of course. But if Spain won 2-0 I wouldn't be surprised, simply because they are on the highest level for years now. It's just that I didn't expect those teams to play that good, which came as a shock (especially Italy and Holland). I know Holland was in the finals, but they changed half of their team and they have many 'unknown' players from Eredivisie. As for Italy, they showed tons of quality, unlike before when they even managed to choke in the easiest group. But of course, that doesn't mean they won't choke sooner or later, nor that Spain surely won't win the WC. It's just the first impression.
