You obviously forgot the point that you mentioned 5 European teams crashing out. I addressed that.
And you called it "silly." That's not properly addressing the issue I'm afraid.

6 out of the 13 Euro nations progressed to the knockouts, a little under 50%. 100% of the South American sides progressed through the groups. 75% of the AFC nations went through. 66.67% of the CONCACAF nations went through to the knockouts. While only one out of six African nations progressed, 17%.

That's appalling for Africa. As the host continent, they have to do better than that. But the fact that the second rate European nations were held back by the Asians and South Americans shows that perhaps Europe doesn't deserve any more spots.

India deserves a spot dammit. We have a billion people :andy2:

I think its fine the way it is. Would consider taking away a spot from Africa, not sure where I'd allocate it to...

Once you start taking spots from CONCACAF, then the Europeans will want to do the same with Asia, then Africa, et cetera. Rinse and repeat. Give a mouse a cookie and he'll want a glass of milk.

And to be honest, it's only the good sides pulling Europe along. Look at how Greece, Slovenia, France, Serbia, Denmark, and the Swiss all crashed out of their groups this year while Asians, South Americans and North Americans went on instead.

So no, I refuse to give up a CONCACAF spot now that I think of it. We deserve three spots and one playoff with SA. Nobody wants to see Greece or some of those other sides at World Cups, so fuck em. Put and qualify or shutup.
Silly.

Because France, Greece and Denmark had a bad World Cup, you use this as evidence, not to mention the Swiss.
What does that prove other than they all failed this time to produce the goods. And who are the good sides pulling Europe along?

In the biggest European teams the African players add the much needed muscles and fitness to the unit and complement the brains in the team which are usually provided by the SA and European players.
But when they're alone and have to form the unit by themselves, there is a surplus of muscles and shortage of brains.
They need more Okocha's and I don't see many/any around. I see sheer power in Muntari, Essien, Drogba, but not an Okocha.
Back to being serious, i think this is very true. The Africans produce only one type of players, they need more of the intelligent kind and little less of the strong muscular type.

Did you guys know that if Spain manages to win sunday's final in 120 min or less the only unbeaten team in SA 2010 will be New Zealand?
 That's awesome.

Why? We have a million quality sides that don't qualify. The final is all European. I'd rather have Belgium or Turkey than El Salvador in the World Cup.
Not as a fan who shelled out money to attend the WC, IMO. It really is something when you're at a WC and experience the breadth of the world representation. It's not the Euro, nor should it be.

There's probably a little "affirmative continental action" involved in preserving it. But having experienced it first-hand, having just the best teams in the WC would be a terrible loss for the sport, the tournament, the goals of it, and all the visiting fans.

There's nothing like walking a march with 149,000 others to a stadium, all wearing the colors of their respective nations, and you have a Japanese guy, a German guy, an Argentinian, two girls from Australia, and a couple of guys from Algeria all enjoying the moment together.

Africa is relatively new to football, they barely had functioning countries back in the 50's and 60's so thats an unfair comparison.
They are barely functioning as football administrative countries now. (Just as Chxta.) Training grounds, player stipends, etc.... it's a mess.

African teams didn't do good, not because they are not, but because they are not well managed (not really talking about the coach factor).
They clearly have the player talent. The problem is up the chain.

 Desis 4 Life, yo. But I know where you're coming from here.

I saw Paul predict the 3rd place match result. He kept moving from one box to the next, how on earth do you decide which one he picked?
