So I'm a little late here, but the Netherlands-Uruguay match was awesome. Still, I don't know if you could tell on television, but I thought Grygera was playing for Uruguay: Netherland's left flank was left totally uncovered and unmarked for most of the match, and Holland just tortured them from there every time. Cáceres had his side mostly covered, but talk about weak defensive positioning -- how did Uruguay make it through the group stage with so many clean sheets?
Meaning: Netherlands looked good. But given what Uruguay was playing, and what I saw of Holland, Netherlands has to be one of the worst teams I've seen make it to a World Cup final in a long while. That said, they still will probably beat Spain.
Oh, and better than the match was the
Fan Walk -- a 2.6km walk from the downtown Cape Town train station to Green Point Stadium. Supposedly it was just meant to shuttle pedestrians to the match to avoid traffic. But over the Cup, it organically evolved into this Mardi Gras-like street party of music, food vendors, vuvuzelas, etc. 149,000 people turned up for it Tuesday night, and it was a blast. FIFA would be wise to try to create the conditions to recreate that for future World Cups.
Oh, and for pictures:
