They both hold eachother's shirts and suddenly Inzaghi comes ahead of the defender (while holding his shirt) and the defender falls. This way Inzaghi comes in front of Pletikosa, blocks his view and the keeper doesn't save the ball.

I don't know what there is to complain about this. How can you say that it was the defender who made the foul?

How can you say it was Inzaghi?

And that still leaves four goals and a myriad of bad calls in the Korea game alone. I think Italy had every right to complain and the fact that that right was taken from them based on the fact that they're Italian will always bother me.

I'm not an Italian and I don't feel insulted by Andy's or Burke's racial abuse, but it's getting tiresome how some teams, like the US or Belgium, are allowed to complain and others are not, like Italy and Spain.

I can understand that. But it was 8 years ago. I just don't see what the point is in arguing about it. Its obvious that the quality of officiating has not gotten any better, and until they put in instant replay for certain situations, then its something that we have todeal with.

I'm just reading all of this banter and its as if each side is trying to convicne the other. Its 8 years gone now. If you were set in your beliefs back then, there's little chance anyone is going to change their mind.

Of course nobody will want to mention the Grosso dive. He's Italian and they won the World Cup after it.

And no, it's not everyone who feels that way, only fans of those said nations. The refereeing was poor, but it wasn't some big conspiracy. Half of those calls against Italy that folks keep mentioning are continuously misinterpreted by fans, like the supposed penalty on Totti, or the elbows during aerial challenges. They weren't penalties and they all were not red cards.

Whatever the case, even if Italy wins the World Cup this year, in 2014, and in 2018, we will always revisit the 2002 incidents no matter what year it is.

No ref would be banned from refereeing like Moreno was for misinterpreted (by fans) calls Andy.

Dule, 2nd place is what you want bro. If you're second you play USA and if you beat USA then it's Uruguay or Korea. That's the best fucking draw you could think of.
Of course, the match against USA and the potential quarter against Korea/Uruguay will be 50-50, but it's still better than being paired with the other teams in the knock-outs.

So, 2nd is the desired spot. In order to be 2nd, you need to win by less than 3 goals and expect Ghana-Germany not to be a draw. That's the most realistic way of getting the 2nd place.

Any fan who has watched football and cared about a team for any length of time will be able to tell tales of when they were 'robbed', but there's no point in dwelling on it.

Not that I'm going to say the Aberdeen fans who sent threats and a dead rat to a ref after a game a few years ago weren't entirely justified in their actions.

You can't say that it was only Inzaghi since they both make a foul at the same time. But it's Inzaghi who somehow comes ahead of the defender, who falls, so even though you see that both are fouling, you simply go with the logic that the attacker was pulling the shirt harder and this allowed him the advantage he got.
The linesman couldn't really feel the strength of those shirt pullings and he went with the logical answer.
You can watch million replays and you still won't know how strong they were pulling eachother's jerseys.
You see a foul from both sides and in such situations you give advantage to the defender, just like the attacker gets the advantage when an offside call is a very close one.
