My god the Germans are a good team. The way they destroyed England today was amazing, their counter attacking is the best in the tournament(closely followed by the US imo) and they could hurt any team with their counterattacking football.

I enjoy this German team; the link up between Muller, Klose, Ozil and Podolski is a real joy to watch. Ozil in particular seems to be revelling in the free role he's given at the German NT. I have to say that Germany playing with no real holding midfielder in midfield i expected them to be a little exposed, but Khedira and Schweini are doing a great job in sharing defensive responsibilities and working for each other. The Germans are tactically the best team in this tournament imo. Low seems like he's a really good coach

The English were poor throughout the tournament, i think Capello did a horrible job with them. You could feel the players were restricted by him and rarely dared to take risks.

Kim Jong-il Blamed for N.Korea's Foolish World Cup Tactics

After the complete rout of North Korea by Portugal on Monday in their second match of the World Cup against Portugal, some observers have seized on the opportunity to blame North Korean leader Kim Jong-il personally.

The license was provided by a claim by the team's coach Kim Jong-hun that the dictator "gives regular tactical advice during matches using mobile phones that are not visible to the naked eye." The coach added the fantasy device was invented by Kim Jong-il himself.

"Given the way the North Korean regime works, a football coach can't just mention Kim Jong-il's name and talk about him as he likes," a South Korean official said. "The invisible-mobile-phone part may be silly, but it's probably true that Kim Jong-il's orders are delivered to the coach."

A source who knows Kim Jong-hun's playing style very well said that the match against Portugal was not played in a way the North Korean coach wanted and that he must have been pressured from someone outside. "Kim Jong-hun, who is composed and laid-back, adheres to defense-oriented tactics since he was formerly a defender, but North Korea played an unreasonable offense-oriented tactics at the time when the gap was widening," the source said.

It appears that North Korea had high hopes of the game, which it broadcast live for the first time in its history. Kim Yong-hyun, a professor at Dongguk University, said, "The North Korean leadership seems to have wanted to consolidate its hold and look for ways to turn the tables through a victory in the World Cup as it is struggling both economically and diplomatically." Another government official said, "The brave display of discipline against Brazil on June 16 raised the bar for the North Korean team and instilled extravagant hopes in people."

The atmosphere in the North is said to be subdued after the rout. Kim Sung-min, who heads radio channel Free North Korea Radio, said, "We contacted North Koreans, and they said that they feel let down and upset. There are people who said they were so upset that they drank themselves senseless and that they can never forgive the players."

Germany were good, but England were very very bad and haven't really played well under Capello apart from against Croatia.

The game summed up the change in football nowadays, Capello stuck in the past with his style and Germany playing modern expansive football, with the front 4 players interchanging

i was hoping gerrard, rooney and lampard show up and deliver....
and the blame game begins with many arguing that the goal from lampard should not have been ruled offside, and england would have won

Exactly. Let's face it, Germany haven't been tested so far and the one time they were, they lost.

Germany has some fucking luck with their groups.
2002:

Germany 3 2 1 0 11 1 +10 7
Republic of Ireland 3 1 2 0 5 2 +3 5
Cameroon 3 1 1 1 2 3 −1 4
Saudi Arabia 3 0 0 3 0 12 −12 0

2006:

Germany 3 3 0 0 8 2 +6 9
Ecuador 3 2 0 1 5 3 +2 6
Poland 3 1 0 2 2 4 −2 3
Costa Rica 3 0 0 3 3 9 −6 0

Euro 2008:

Croatia 3 3 0 0 4 1 +3 9
Germany 3 2 0 1 4 2 +2 6
Austria 3 0 1 2 1 3 −2 1
Poland 3 0 1 2 1 4 −3 1

In contrast look what happens when they draw a challenging group:

Euro 2004:

Czech Republic 3 3 0 0 7 4 +3 9
Netherlands 3 1 1 1 6 4 +2 4
Germany 3 0 2 1 2 3 −1 2
Latvia 3 0 1 2 1 5 −4 1

I disagree with you here Ze, there group this time was pretty tough, no easy teams at all in their group.

How were they not tested? They played England who were favorites before this tournament, and they played Ghana who are now quarter finalists.

Germany had a tricky group this time around with many predicting Serbia to go far in the competition.

Sure they didn't do well in Euro 2008 but Holland and the Czechs were very good at that point.
