Not really. I want atmosphere like that created by brazilian drums and whistles, but not a constant bzzzzzbzzz tone that drowns out everything including chants.
Believe me... if you were in the stadiums hearing the vuvuzelas, you wouldn't be thinking "bees" as much as "jet plane taking off". That's every bit as much an atmosphere as Brazilian drums, whistles, and chants that often run the entire 90 minutes as well.
Ever thought that maybe that's why this WC has been so dull so far? Maybe it's not due to the games themselves, but due to the missing atmosphere.
No. It's not the atmosphere at all. Germany had little atmosphere that leaked into the Cup coverage.
What it comes down to, IMO, is the group pairings and an emphasis on not making early mistakes. The early mistakes get punished, and teams want to live to fight another day. Ideally, that should mean the later group matches should mean so much more as they face do-or-elimination. But for now, it's about conservatism and not making big mistakes they can't recover from.
