inzaghi and cammo wont start.....if they did it would make no sense. lippi plays del piero and gattuso and they both have good games and then you bench them. Gattuso has started every game since his injury, their is no sense in benching him now after he has played good. if cammo is going to start it will be in place of perrotta. and i will not be surprised if lippi starts toni and gilla again because they have had their chances but cant seem to finish.
It could be an issue of Gatusso's looming suspension that he wouldnt start IMO

if you play safe then the worst can happen. if u sit your starter because he has one yellow already then what happens if this is our last game. this isnt the group stage and you can't plan to save him for an up coming match. it's do or die.

Blokhin falls through Trap door Thursday 29 June, 2006

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Ukraine boss Oleg Blokhin says his side will be going for victory against Italy, even if he seems unsure who their Coach is…

The former USSR international was left red faced today when responding to a question about Azzurri ace Francesco Totti.

“Totti? He is a problem for [Giovanni] Trapattoni,” he stated before realising that the latter had been replaced after Euro 2004.

“I’m sorry, I was meant to say [Marcello] Lippi. I got a little confused because they are two great Coaches.”

The two teams meet in the quarter-final of the World Cup tomorrow night and, although he concedes the Italians are favourites for victory, he is remaining optimistic.

"We are not afraid of playing Italy, we will play freely. We are going to aim for victory," he noted.

Star striker Andriy Shevchenko yesterday suggested that his side wouldn’t be feeling any pressure and Blokhin agrees.

“Italy are more under pressure because they are the favourites in our game and we have already achieved what we wanted to,” he added.

“We have already made history. Our intention now is to add a new chapter to that and that is why I am hopeful going into the match,” he added.

Ukraine were the first European side, apart from hosts Germany, to qualify for the competition but they have been criticised for their mediocre football in the tournament so far.

"People are saying we are playing practical, modest football. But I like the soccer Ukraine are playing and we are in the quarter-finals," he concluded
 :howler:

Not a bad formation. Though I don't believe what papers say no more. Lippi doesn't allow no one to know about his formation untill the game is up.

I had a G’Day, says Del Piero Thursday 29 June, 2006
Alessandro Del Piero insists he did well against Australia despite again being played out of position for Italy.

The Juventus captain was fielded in a wide left attacking midfield role during the 1-0 second round win, but didn’t totally convince the Italian media of his display.

Yet the No 10, who usually plays as a second striker for the Old Lady, maintains he was satisfied with his performance.

“I was asked to do a specific job and I accepted,” said Del Piero. “Seeing as we risked little defensively down the flank, I think I did well.

“I have to underline that we did threaten offensively too against the Australians. We had four clear chances and two of those developed from my feet.

“Playing in such a way you saw little of the real Del Piero, I was transformed into someone else. But I was still happy with what I did.”

It’s unclear at this stage whether Alex will keep his place in the starting XI when they line up against Ukraine on Friday.

Boss Marcello Lippi could opt for a new trident attack after testing Francesco Totti, Luca Toni and Pippo Inzaghi in training this morning even if he did praise Alex today.

“I admired the hard work which he put in, his participation during the highs and lows of the game,” stated the Coach on Thursday.

However, whoever plays on Friday will be doing so with a thought for Juventus team manager Gianluca Pessotto in their minds. “We will be playing for him,” concluded Del Piero.

Alex is a close friend of the former defender after playing alongside him for over a decade in Turin.

Del Piero, along with Gianluca Zambrotta and Ciro Ferrara, visited their former teammate in hospital on Tuesday following his fall from a window at the club’s headquarters.

this is a terrible formation. Lippi has to keep with 4-3-3 . Else, it's defensive and ugly.

nothing impressive about the match between swiss & ukrainians, none of them could oganize effective attacks, they are average teams. it will be an easy task for Italian.
Semi final, Here we are!
It won't be an easy task. In case you haven't noticed Italy hasn't been the greatest of teams lately. Heck they struggled against the USA. I for one never underestimate the enemy and will be praying hard for Italia.
