gattuso will be playing......i hope he hounds sheva across the midfield, making it hard for the ukraine attack to build up. i will be shocked if inzaghi starts, i think lippi will go back to gilla or even del again.

Lippi, needs to bring Pippo into the game. He is a player that's in strong form and needs to keep building on that. I really hope Toni will finally get a deserved goal. He's been so close that all my fingernails are gone. As for Nesta replacement, there never is a replacement for a player of his quality. But I have faith that whoever partners will Cannavaro will do just fine. Cannavaro has been the anchor of this team and it's always a pleasure to watch him play. Italy need a strong performance with some goals to boost their confidence. This is a good time to get in form.

Inzaghi should never start. He's very good from the bench and if we're on a deadlock he's the player that Italy can bring on. If he starts, he plays worse and there's won't be a good enough subbing option at the end.

Totti-Del Piero-Toni is the way to go. If Lippi starts with Gila again, then Del Piero can also come off the bench...

Mine as well. Iaquinta hasn't contributed anything apart from the goal against Ghana which was gifted to him. He doesn't hold up the ball, he doesn't bring other players into the game and he can't time a run to save his life. The only thing he has is a bit of pace.

Agreed. I'd like to see Inzaghi get at least 20 mins against Ukraine.

Well, if the only place that pace gets him is into offside positions then it isn't much of a plus now is it? If I had my way he wouldn't be in Germany to begin with.

Maybe , but of all the strikers Italy took to Germany , he is the likeliest source of goals. He is the only 1 I am sure that can go on a scoring spree, not score 1 goal and thats it, till 3 games after. Also he is the biggest nuisnace to defenders out of all the strikers in the world cup.

out for Italy Thursday 29 June, 2006

    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Udinese striker Vincenzo Iaquinta will play no part in Italy’s quarter-final against Ukraine on Friday evening.

The forward, who netted his first Azzurri goal in the 2-0 win over Ghana during the outfit’s World Cup opener, picked up a slight muscle problem last night and trained on his own this morning.

As a consequence, the one-time Barcelona target will not be risked against Andriy Shevchenko and Co in Hamburg.

Boss Marcello Lippi is already without the injured Alessandro Nesta, plus the suspended duo of Daniele De Rossi and Marco Materazzi

It's never good to have an injured player, but I would rather see pippo come in off the bench instead. I know that Iaquinta is a good sub for Toni because of his size, but I would keep Toni in the whole game and start with dp up front with Toni and maybe sub him in the second half with Inzaghi.
