It was indirect, and that is also dangerous. However, it's no where close to as dangerous as a fucking PK. (Oh, and by the way, although they would never apply this, according to the rules, the referee would not be obligated to extend the game beyong the additional 3 minutes for an indirect kick. The only instant in which the game can be extended indefinitely is a penalty kick)

In the end I feel the best team went through, but I doubt anyone can make a fair judgement on this game. How on earth are we to judge? This didn't even look like a football game.

Anybody who thinks that Italy will go through should really reconsider what they have said as the press just love to boot-lick Italy. Yes on paper Italy is strong compared to Australia, but Australia has a genius of a coach with the name of Hiddink, who can achieve something out of nothing.

For this game, it will go like this

Hopefully Matrix and the attack compartment doesn't choke, as Australia can really pounce on every mistake committed. But I'm faithful that Lippi will do the job. in finishing Australia, but I expect it to take a bit longer than usual.

The referee? I'm afraid that his decisions will be all wrong again. For the WC campaign, most of the referees are incompetent, so I woulnd't be surprised if something goes wrong for Italy.
I expect this game to go 1 - 0 to Italy, with many refereeing decisions going the wrong way.

but anyway.. watching the match last night brought mixed feelings.. all i know is that football can really hurt.

I watched the penalty replays over and over again, and became even more confused, because apart from the obstruction alligations, IMO Neil actually tripped him purposely with his arm.. some may argue that it should be an direct free kick.. but when a player almost grabs at the ankle with purpose to obstruct.. this should be a penalty kick. Anyway thats the way it looked to me..

Australia had an incredible world cup, demonstrating our characteristics of fair play, enthusiasm and sportsmanship. They deserve to be hugely applauded respected for their display in Germany. Not many realise what impact this will have on Australia's football domestically. Hopefully they can build a domestic league.. slowly within 20 yrs or so.. i see the Australian league at the top level, with the likes of the premiership and serie A... Football needs a character like Australia in the World Cup.

Nah Lippi announced his lineup in the 11th hour, and I was not paying attention to my post. The referee ruined the game for both sides.

Actually from what I see, Neil just lay down there and his arm was stretched, Grosso had no other choice but to trip, trying his attempts to earn a penalty. I would say it is 50-50 for both players, but unfortunately it went for Italy. But IMO the referee tried to even things out by awarding a penalty.

I have respect for the Aussies in this game, but too bad it ended in shame

The Game should have been over by half-time. We wasted alot of chances. Luca Toni link up play was good, Shame about his finishing, which was shocking! The penalty was deserved, The Aussies didnt do anything to win the game. Even when Matrix was sent off, we lost our balance. Well done Grosso even though you are rubbish well done for getting our Penalty.
