The plan was probably to have Del Neri for two seasons, and now that looks shot, Nenna.

Since Marotta will undoubtedly prefer managers with Serie A experience, that rules out guys like Van Gaal. Deschamps will probably stay in France and Capello might not want to return here so soon.

So now you're looking at Conte or Mazzarri. 40/40 chance, with 20% for "other". It's certainly possible.

Its true that the squad was built around Delneri but like I said, Marotta has the luxury of having a squad that can still be built around most manager who use more conservative tactics. That doesn't include Mazzarri. Building a completely new squad around Mazzarri presents too great a challenge that definitely cannot be done in one mercato if we're to fulfill our desire to begin signing quality and not quantity. It wouldn't seem logical to go back to square one after last mercato.
Think about all the players we'll have to buy AGAIN -

DEFENSE - X-Bonucci-Chiellini
MIDFIELD - X-X-Melo-Marchisio-X
MIDFIELD - X-Quag
FORWARD - Matri

That's a total of seven positions that will need players bought for them. Krasic will not fit in any of those positions so he'll have to be sold. Simply put - we can't afford Mazzarri's tactics.

I'm pretty sure they'd think we wouldn't need that many new signings.

Buffon

Bonucci - Barzagli - Chiellini

Motta/Pepe - Marchisio - Melo - Bastos

Krasic - Quag

Matri

It sucks, I know, but I'm sure these guys think they could get by.

Not only would that team not make top 3. It would not improve over 7th. I understand your reluctance to hope that we buy quality this coming summer which I share as well. But given that we have a projected budget somewhere around 80 million euro's and that several statements have been made about buying world class players then I expect at least two very good players to arrive in the summer + one of Matri and Quagliarella. Asking Krasic to play that position will simply ruin him.

My formation only demonstrates that it's possible. Add a couple other "quality" players who fit the 3-5-2 and it's certainly possible.

I don't think the argument is whether its possible or not. Virtually anything is possible. Its the degree of likelihood that Mazzarri is actually seen by the management as a viable option to bring us into the top three which is the real matter. And all things considered, it seems fairly low. Not to mention that these are only rumors we're dealing with right now.

What I'd do to have Roberto Mancini now. This guy is a going to be a bigger disaster than Del Neri if That was ever possible.

Its like we're becoming a parody of ourselves. Whanever an Italian has one good season we want them. What about actually waiting more than one season? And also, 3-5-2, now how the fuck is that going to work? Are they planning on selling Krasic and blaming everything on him and selling him off just like they did Diego?
