Trapattoni: Why Should I Resign?

10/17/2002. Beleaguered Italy coach Giovanni Trapattoni is holding firm despite the Wales defeat.

"When you lose you always talk about the mistakes of the coach, but the critics would have been worse if I made different choices," he said.

"I still believe in this team and it's possibilties to go to the European finals. Why should I resign?"

As a holding midfieder, noone holds a candle to Albertini and there are no viable options as the rest are either over rated or not good enough
*cough* taccihnardi *cough* ;)

These aren't all my opinions to defend, but when you hear similar things said by various people you start to think maybe there's some truth to it. I only saw Italy at the WC and I was terribly unimpressed at the time so that's all I've seen on my own.

Out of position.. Is this the lineup from last night?
Buffon; Panucci, Cannavaro, Nesta, Zauri; Pirlo; Tommasi, Ambrosini, Di Biagio; Montella, Del Piero.

Depsite Ancelotti's best efforts, Pirlo is no defensive midfielder. I guess that is the only one here. But tactically this can't be a great selection, how can you play 4 defenders, 1 defensive mid and 3 more defensive midfielders? Where is the offensive pressure?

A belief you may not share, I think the coach is to be held responsible for the results of the team. That's the risk you take saying yes to the job.

The line-up is correct, just that Trap thought of Pirlo being closer to the attack then to the defence. But it didn't happend, cause Pirlo drifted back (the reason for this is beyond me) all throughout the game and basically your line-up reflects the real situation on the pitch. So yeah he did play out of position, but I doubt Trap ordered him that ;)

Since when is Carlo making Pirlo a defensive midfielder?

That's what every Milanista seems to think at least. Rui Costa is playing behind the front two, so Pirlo is pushed back to anchor in front of the back four.

You surely gotta be kidding, this is my point exactly about overrated players, Tacch has a relatively good start to the season and already he is a world beater, forgetting that he is just above average

Tacchinardi cannot pass the ball adequately and well imo he is not a viable option just an option

This are the marks that The Sun and English paper gave the azzuri

Buffon 7 (generous or what)

Panucci 6

Cannavaro 7

Nesta 8:howler: :LOL::LOL::LOL::LOL::LOL::LOL:

Zauri 6

di biagio 6

Gatusso 4

Marazzina 5

Ambrosini 6

Pirlo 7

Del Piero 7

Montella 7 :LOL::LOL::LOL:

For those who think I am always on Gatusso's case, in 16 minutes that he was on the field, the ball was in the air and he tried to control it, but being Gatusso, he completely miscontrolled and 70,000 welshmen roared iwith laughter

I didn't say he was a world beater, but he is Italy's best DM, behind an in form Di Biagio IMO

Denco,

You are far too harsh on tacchi, and far too forgetful of the great things he has done for juve!!

Tacchi is a quality player and when played in his natural role is one of the best there is at it!!

Give the guy a break!!

Paul I would not say i am being forgetful as more like I have never really appreciated his style of play

I never judge anyone on one season, I do on all the times I have seen the player play and I just do not like Tacchinardi as a midfielder, its funny but i prefered him when he just started out as a sweeper

The season everyone tells me he played gr8, which is 2 seasons ago, to me he played like he normally does which is not impressive in my eyes

Well i guess I view Tacchi the same way you view Davids in that we both wonder what the fuss is about

I'll get back to you on that denco...

One thing no one has yet mentioned about this game, was....

How great it was to see the wonderful reception John Charles received when he was introduced to the crowd before the match.

Supporters and players of both countries joining in to recognise the wales / juve / leeds legend!!

That, my friends is what football is all about!!
