Viareggio Cup, the Primavera’s adventure continues
Today there wasn’t an unexpected turn of events. Juventus Primavera’s performance spoke for itself and allowed the Bianconeri to pass through the quarter finals. At the Bresciani stadium in Viareggio, Bucaro’s men overcame Palermo 2-1 thanks to their great character and play.

Being one goal down (the Sicilians were ahead 1-0 at the break), the Bianconeri reversed the result thanks to Belcastro’s equalizer at the very beginning of the second half and to De Silvestro who sealed the game at the 30th minute. Therefore, the Primavera still are on track and, in the quarter final game on Thursday, they will face Atalanta. Costantino was between the sticks; Romano, Camilleri, Di Dio and Liviero to defend; Corticchia, Ilari and Belcastro at midfield, De Silvestro and Boniperti in front along with Libertazzi. The big news as compared to the first tournament stage was the presence of Boniperti, returned to the pitch having recovered from his injury. Following a minute’s silence in memory of Massimo Ranzani, a member of the Italian alpine troops who died in Afghanistan, the match started. The Bianconeri were though and aggressive, and created an immediate danger with Boniperti. The Rosanero responded with Maltese who went wide following a group action.

The game then moved into high gear. Palermo strikers had several chances, and in the 25th minute Silvestri netted a header receiving a corner from the flag. Juventus reaction was sudden: they created three opportunities with Libertazzi, Boniperti and Camilleri. The better chance was for De Silvestro, whose header was saved by Di Gregorio. In the 40th minute, Libertazzi received an excellent pass, but unfortunately the striker didn’t find the right coordination to shoot towards the opponents’ goal. Before the break, Boniperti tried again but his lob wasn’t clinical. At the end of the first half: Palermo 1, Juventus 0.

At the very beginning of the second half, in the 3rd minute, Belcastro scored thanks to his left footed shot following Liviero’s cross. The Bianconeri seemed to be really inspired and Libertazzi failed by a hair’s breadth in diverting the ball close to the goal. In the 9th minute, Giannetti took the field in place of Libertazzi. After some minutes, the goalkeeper Di Gregorio needed to exit the box to forestall Boniperti fired towards the goal. Then, the second substitution for Bucaro: Belcastro replaced by Spinazzola.

The latter immediately had a great chance, but his lob went wide over the bar. Juventus were focused and involved Di Gregorio who could merely save his goal against Giannetti. However, the Rosanero goalkeeper failed to keep the ball in the 31st minute following Boniperti’s cross and De Silvestro took advantage of his mistake by netting from the short distance. Bucaro’s men understood that the moment to seal the victory came and just the post rescued Palermo from a header by Spinazzola. Boniperti left the pitch almost at the end of the game, being replaced by Belfasti. In the last stages, Giannetti came close to score the third goal for the Bianconeri just from inside the box.

Palermo tried to react, but Costantino was no longer involved. The final result was 2-1, and the Bianconeri’s march could go on. On Thursday the next step will be taken
