The VdV transfer consideration has to include whether he will bring as much - or more - to the table as Hamsik might next season. Both are fine players and would make a very good acquisition.

So, as things stand as we head towards the wintter break, after the Lazio and Siena matches, I think we can all agree the following:-

1 Giovinco and Marchisio should be brought back straight away.

2 We need one main back 4 player of true international class, be it Ivanovic or someone of equal stature in January, not next summer.

3 We need a new forward midfielder in by next summer to replace Pavel Nedved.
Either Van der Vaart, Hamsik or someone else as good or better.

4. Next summer, we will need to have come to a verdict as to whether we believe Palladino is going to be a consistent performer for us in the 2008/2009 season. We will have the rest of this season to come to a proper judgement. I assume that we would wish to consolidate our attacking options with one further proven striker of international class, preferably an Italian and also someone under 25 years of age.
Say Quagliarella or someone as good or better to partner 3zegol.

Remember, as we expect a top 4 finish and qualify for a Champions League place, a strengthened squad, notably deeper than at present is required. Failure to get that finish is unthinkable in financial terms and, especially, for our ability to land the best players.
1) I will add De Ceglie to that list to provide more cover down the left
2) I actually do think we are starting to look stable at Central defense and once Andrade is back... we r there. Think we juz need a replacement for Boumsong, someone who can play better D. Someone like Ferrari maybe... Can we get Moggi to con Roma into doing a direct exchange
3) VDV is my first choice
4) Its difficult to allow Palladino to show what he can do if he dun play on a consistent basis at his prefered position. From what I had been seeing so far Quagliarella does not win me over and dun think he can provide what Palladino cant...
Btw, Palladino is a useful player cos he is versatile

All these are of course IMO....

The Italian media are undecided whether it is Dutch playmaker Rafael Van der Vaart or Brazilian attacker Diego that Juventus are prepared to bust the bank for.

Going into the weekend it was Werder Bremen’s Diego that was hogging the transfer headlines in Turin, but now the focus of attention – at least on the media side – has shifted back to Van der Vaart.

According to the latest press reports, the Bianconeri are determined to finalise a deal for the Hamburger SV star in January already, with the intent of him becoming the natural successor of their aging Czech ace Pavel Nedved.

During a weekend meeting, Juve sports director Alessio Secco is alleged to have received the green-light to approach HSV with a 17 million euro for their star performer. Van der Vaart himself is said to be keen on a switch to the Italian giants, and is supposedly set to receive an offer of a five-year deal in worth of 4m euro a season.

The 24-year-old Dutch midfielder is virtually certain to leave the Bundesliga at the end of the current season, as he has a clause in his contract which will allows him to be sold for just £1m in 2009.

VDV more of a runner, makes things happen by his pace and is quite a good finisher...Diego more samba-style, dribbling and deadly passing...either way it looks good....very tough to choose  :)
