- Rafael van der Vaart has scored 8 goals (6 in the League, 2 in the UEFA Cup/Intertoto) in his last 8 consecutive matches for HSV this season.
- He is currently second (6 goals) on the Bundesliga Top Goalscorer List trailing behind Klose (8 goals).
- He has been awarded the most MOTM awards of all the players in the Bundesliga until now this season.
- These statistics makes him the most profilic scoring Dutch player of this season until now. Beating renowned strikers like Van Nistelrooy, Huntelaar, Kuyt, Van Persie.
Van Der Vaart barely has disappointed throughout his career, he had ONE really disappointing season in his career, this was his last season at Ajax and still he managed to score 7 goals. His goal record is phenomenal by all means considering he isn't a striker but a attacking midfielder.
And i didn't even mentioned his assist record which isn't bad either.
I've watched Rafael van der Vaart a lot over the past couple of years and I think he's absolutely great player. He's a very creative, technical player and has the ability to set up plays easily. He also has great vision and his coach at Ajax used to say he was one of the few players he could put almost anywhere on the pitch, because of his great overall awareness. Besides his great footballing brain and scoring abilities, he's also a player who can bring unexpected magic on the pitch. --->
Watch This
And in my opinion he's also better than Real Madrid's Wesley Sneijder, who I've also watched a lot.
At Ajax he used to play as a creative playmaker, but now at HSV he's put in a more forward position, playing as a attacking midfielder who's more focused on scoring and this might be the reason he's more prolific right now.
The only thing that is problematic with him is that he's very very injury-prone. He's had injuries on both knees, both ankles, both thighs & his hamstring and has missed at least 1/3 of all the games he could have played. So many injuries at such a young age, it's a shame really.
If he's healthy though, he's one of the best midfielders in the world in my opinion and he has the potential to become even better. But I honestly think he would be much better suited to the Spanish league and that's also the place where he wants to go.
BTW Rafael Van der Vaart isn't the most prolific Dutch player currently this season, Klaas-Jan Huntelaar is the most prolific right now.
Huntelaar currently has 11 goals (9 Competition & 2 UEFA Cup) & 4 Assists.
But for a midfielder Van der Vaart's stats are very good.
