Los Che Give Up On Van Der Vaart

No "dream come true" ending for Rafael. Rafa van der Vaart, the want-away Hamburger SV captain, will be staying in Germany for the forseeable future after Los Che ended their interest in the player amidst fervent opposition from the HSV hierarchy. Valencia, though, aim to strengthen more before the window closes...

Hamburg SV have won their battle to keep hold of captain Rafael van der Vaart - for now.

Valencia, who had official bids rejected last week, have turned tail and given up on their attempt to land the unsettled midfielder, meaning that the Dutchman is set to remain at HSV and captain the side until the New Year at least.

Los Che's final bid was supposedly in the region of 20 million euros, yet this was not enough to persuade Hamburg to part with their prized asset.

Valencia sport director Miguel Angel Ruiz said of the deal, "The problem is, he was an intransferible player, and HSV did not even wish to negotiate.

"Hamburg had no wish to sell - but if there was a release clause in German contracts, things might have been different."

However, with over a week left before the transfer window closes, Ruiz insists that money - never an issue for the van der Vaart switch, he was quick to emphasise - is still available and could well be used before the end of the month.

"We're going to change our strategy. We're not going to carry out three week negotiations like those with [Kim] Kallstrom or ten days like this one [van der Vaart].

"We'll hope to find a player suitable for our level. Today [Tuesday] opened up some possibilities for us," he claimed.

But for all his optimism, there is urgency.

Valencia did well to strengthen their defence this summer, with Ivan Helguera coming in from Real Madrid, and landed Nikola Zigic and Javier Arizmendi to add to an already-burgeoning front line.

But central midfield was a priority - and one that's yet to be met.

PSV's Ibrahim Affelay is unlikely to join as the coach deems him one young player too many; in any case, the Dutch club - supposedly about to lose Arouna Kone to Sevilla - may have been reluctant to sell.

Javier Casquero was a stand-out for Getafe last season and could yet be the signing coach Quique Flores is looking for. He's no superstar, and not a van der Vaart figure, but could definitely offer options in midfield.

If this move goes ahead, he'll be Valencia's second Geta signing of the transfer window, after young defender Alexis Delgado.

we could but we need to replace zidane, vdv is off to spain, or at least anywhere but juve, the diego trail im confident will be revived next season providing we qualify for the cl, to replace nedved and to finally fill the void left by zidane. as far as this seasons midfield is concerned its good enough to secure europe, nothing more
What is your obsession with filling the void left by Zidane. Zidane left years ago and Neddy filled in the "playmaker" role of the team. He came to us as a winger who scored goals and matured into the heart beat of our midfield.

There is no void left by Zidane.

Diego is a different player to Zidane, yes they are playmakers, but they dont play in the same manner.

We dont yet need to fill the playmaker role as Neddy is playing out of his skin for it. Next year we need a replacement for neddy. VDV isnt the man either. As he tends to imho play at times as a forward, so advance he is detached from the midfield.

-------------------------------

If we could get VDV he would certainly add the need creative boost, and could easily slip into the LM/AM role neddy currently fills.

VDV isn't going to stay in Germany much longer - his wife had to 'fled' back to Holland because of fear for HSV fans.
he'll be gone by january.. after doing an alves and askin the president to leave, cant see him coming to italy tho

lol if only there were a few world class czechs that love nedved

Zidane was awesome but in Juve Neddy was more essential. Its more like we need to find sumone as spirited as Neddy for the midfield. Whoever gonna fill the boot is gonna have a tough time emulating these 2 legends.

Inter objective is Hamburg's Rafael Van der Vaart, as in order to replace Luis Figo. The German club have required 25 million euros, so much money. Inter can wait till January and June, the objective is beat down price since 15 million euros. Van der Vaart like so much to Mancini and he is friend of Zlatan Ibrahimovic. Hamburg now that have to lose the player, also this summer he would like to leave accepting Valencia bid. But now there is also Inter ready to offer a five years deal.

BS news

From Wikipedia
During an international match against Sweden national football team on August 18, 2004, van der Vaart was injured by fellow Ajax teammate, Zlatan Ibrahimovic

http://dryada.livejournal.com/2667.html
While the relationship with Mido has been somewhat patched up (they call each other occcasionally), the one with Rafael van der Vaart (24 yrs, captain in Hamburg) never was. He was the other young talent in Ajax who fought for the limelight with Zlatan, and their passionate rivalry would make them one of my favourite mini-OT'Ps in football. In the beginning coach Koeman had them share hotelrooms, hoping they'd turn out friends. They didn't, which was made painfully obvious after the Euros 04 when Sweden played a friendly against Holland (that defeated them on penalties in the quarter finals). It took Zlatan all of 5 minutes to injure van der Vaart to the point where he had to be carried off the pitch. This was proceeded by years of fighting at practises, with coach Koeman having to separate them, and reports on Zlatan's and the Dutch wonderkid's trouble with sharing the attention. Leo Beenhakker stated it plainly: "It was the classic scenario, with Rafael and Zlatan - two young players who turn into stars, early on. They fight about who gets to be on top".
After the Sweden-Holland game, van der Vaart publically critized Zlatan: "He was crazy. He tried to injure me on purpose. You can't do that to a team mate." He was also hurt that Zlatan hadn't even turn to see whether he was OK. Zlatan on the other hand claimed the collision was unintentional and that van der Vaart was wrong to talk about his team mates to the press (Journalist after the game: "Do you want to talk about your problems with some of the teammates?" Zlatan: ""What problem? I don't have any problem. Do you have a problem?"). After this the relationship got worse - Zlatan told Koeman he wouldn't ever play for the same team as van der Vaart, and he and the other player had a huge fight in the dressing room, with Zlatan screaming "If you ever talk about me to the press again I'll break your neck".
When he and Van der Vaart later met for the first time playing for different clubs, van der Vaart commented shortly: "Zlatan Ibrahimovic was never my friend. I'd think everybody knows this". Seeing as he actually threw a huge party when Ajax finally decided to cash in on Zlatan (it was all over Dutch press) I think it's safe to say everybody did.
Van der Vaart is the young man in the stands looking like he's on a funeral during Zlatan's one-man-show against NAC Breda (Koeman was asked to comment: "His reaction wasn't the best. I don't think the footage should have been shown on the big screens, though, it'll just increase the rumours".) The video is here. Here is a small picspam
