i have a feeling theres a small suprise signing and vdv would be that player...but theres no way if he came hed accept taking bench for nedved...hed have to be in the starting line up except if nedved plays in a more central position and that would cause nocerino, marchisio, almiron n zanetti fight for 2 back up spots

Forget about VDV, this is the player we need:

Mancini issues Roma ultimatum

Friday 13 July, 2007

Roma’s Brazilian star Amantino Mancini has reportedly demanded a pay rise or he may consider leaving the Stadio Olimpico.

The 26-year-old excelled in the Giallorossi’s superb 2006-07 campaign, but under his current contract he doesn’t stand to receive any great financial reward.

Mancini’s deal with the capital club runs until 2009 and sees him annually pocket just under £1m, a figure that will only increase to £1.1m at the start of the 2008-09 season.

The Ipatinga-born ace joined from Venezia in 2003 and has reportedly attracted interest from a number of clubs including Juventus and Liverpool.

Until now there has been no indication that the Selecao international will quit Rome, but there were rumours last term that a rift had developed between Mancini and captain Francesco Totti.

It has been suggested that Mancini is demanding £2m per season while Roma’s offer is closer to £1.4m.

The Lupi may give in to the player’s demands at they know his value will decrease as he nears a Bosman deal.

God, please!!! make this happen, if not this year, maybe the next one,
at least, please!!!
He is the only man that can really replace Nedved.

Mancini will not come. There's an interview with Mancini's agent on ilRomanista site. He says his client wants to remain here, even though there's interest from Liverpool. He also says he'll meet Prade on Monday to discuss the extension. Asked about the difference between his client's demands and Roma's offer, he said he can't comment since there has been no meetings between the two parties yet.

I really don't see us making any big acquisitions before the window closes.Financial prudence will be the watchword until Champions League footie is guaranteed

What do you mean by that, has these news been discussed there?
I didnt want to open a new thread about this, like the people do threads for lost cases like Canna and Chivu. I found no other place to post it and i think its VDV related since if we buy the one, we wont buy the other.
I also wanted to point out, the the interest on VDV is fading (if there ever was a real iinterest on him)

Van Der Vaart Predicts Exit

Rafael Van der Vaart has added to speculation surrounding his future by confirming, “It’s possible that I will leave next year.”

In an interview with 'Sport-Bild’ the Dutchman said, “I have always been honest and said that I cannot promise anything.”

Last week his fellow countryman and team mate Joris Mathijsen told reporters that he felt it would be very unlikely that Van der Vaart would remain with Hamburg beyond this season.

The 24 year old has a contract with the German side until 2010, but is allowed to move to another club for €1 million in 2009. The end of the coming season would therefore be the last opportunity for Hamburg to get the real market value for their star player- €20 million.

Van der Vaart has hinted that he would like to play in Spain one day. Barcelona, Real Madrid, Valencia, and Sevilla are his main options.

“It must be a top club. It is my goal to be at a club that is always challenging for titles, and is always involved in the Champions League.”

We should try and snap him up this year...
We can get him for less than 20 mil euro, and if we wait till next year...other clubs may offer him more than what we can!!!
so its our chance this year...

i found the same article in german on sport1.de
and it was a bit longer...

"Van der Vaart will Stammplatz
"Zu den Großen gehören auch Inter Mailand, der AC Mailand und die Spitzen-Mannschaften in England", sagt van der Vaart.Allerdings käme ein solcher Transfer für ihn nur in Frage, wenn er bei seinem neuen Klub zu den Stammspielern zählen würde."

He said that also inter and ac milan are great teams and that he can go also the english top clubs. but he wants to be in the starting 11. He mentioned all teams but no juve..
