Forget about VDV, this is the player we need:
Mancini issues Roma ultimatum
Friday 13 July, 2007
Roma’s Brazilian star Amantino Mancini has reportedly demanded a pay rise or he may consider leaving the Stadio Olimpico.
The 26-year-old excelled in the Giallorossi’s superb 2006-07 campaign, but under his current contract he doesn’t stand to receive any great financial reward.
Mancini’s deal with the capital club runs until 2009 and sees him annually pocket just under £1m, a figure that will only increase to £1.1m at the start of the 2008-09 season.
The Ipatinga-born ace joined from Venezia in 2003 and has reportedly attracted interest from a number of clubs including Juventus and Liverpool.
Until now there has been no indication that the Selecao international will quit Rome, but there were rumours last term that a rift had developed between Mancini and captain Francesco Totti.
It has been suggested that Mancini is demanding £2m per season while Roma’s offer is closer to £1.4m.
The Lupi may give in to the player’s demands at they know his value will decrease as he nears a Bosman deal.
