Then comes Apple with Firewire (IEEE 1394) that gives you a couple of MB/s and think they're all cool and this is gonna be a big hit. But it's not widely adopted because USB 2.0 is released soon after that, which is both faster than Firewire and more compatible (cause you can still use USB 1.1 with the newer hardware).
