Ron Paul could have said that before the election -- wouldn't have mattered with either candidate in there. Nobody wants to promote sacrifice. Our politicians are so scared $#@!less by the polls that nobody wants to risk losing their job by making hard, unpopular, but necessary decisions. So we're the fat kid whose parents try to be their "best friend" instead of parents and feed the kid cake every night.
And the morale of the story? The fat kid always dies early.

Ron Paul has a lot great things to say, but I can never take him seriously when he refuses to move from out of the shadow of the GOP. If he went independent, he'd have no chance of winning (not that he does now), but he'd definitely offer a competitive third party and share his message with a way broader group of people.

I don't think so, more of a case of him having a much smaller campaign budget. And most people don't want such drastic change even though it's what they really need.

He was never going to win, but he could have had his voice heard by a larger audience. Which is the point. Things are never going to get better until there is a third party that gets enough vote to hold the candidates from the two major parties accountable.

Pretty good blog post by Matty T of Rolling Stone Magazine:

http://www.rollingstone.com/politic...-industry-wont-win-you-female-voters-20121108

Speaks about how Republicans need to do some self examination and quit blaming everyone else for their biggest faults.

Here's an excerpt:

"Similarly, the fact that so many Republicans this week think that all Hispanics care about is amnesty, all women want is abortions (and lots of them) and all teenagers want is to sit on their couches and smoke tons of weed legally, that tells you everything you need to know about the hopeless, anachronistic cluelessness of the modern Republican Party. A lot of these people, believe it or not, would respond positively, or at least with genuine curiosity, to the traditional conservative message of self-reliance and fiscal responsibility".

True, but these are footnotes in the Republican program. And they're not even actual goals, no Republicans in recent history of government have done anything to make progress on this. They are instead historical and superseded standpoints.
