Honestly, the only way to find ourselves back on a fiscally responsible path is cutting 50% of government spending... immediately.

So you will absolutely have to cut more than just defense and some social programs.

And this would only be considered the "break even point" from here on out. All of the outstanding debt and interest payments still remain.

So? The Fed has already monetized the debt in the past and nothing tragic has happened. As long as Europe is fucked, which they are, surely the downward pressure on the Euro will provide some support for the dollar, no?

I would say trust Bernanke on this one. He knows what he's doing.
As fucked up as that sounds, it probably is the best option.

Wouldn't keep any at current levels everything needs to be cut and reevaluated. Not just entitlements government departments as well. Department of Education is a definite
No way dude. Defense needs to be cut. By a lot. Why do we need to spend all that money on it? Makes no sense whatsoever.

And come on, social programs are what keeps countries going. As much as I hate to say it :)P) look at Canada, Norway, etc. What you're suggesting just widens the gap between the rich and poor.

Social safety nets are somewhat important in times of economic strife. Otherwise the masses just eat cake.

    Whatever, is it my problem?
    Agreed with both.

    Because I make sense?

I'm not a socialist in any case.

It's been about three pages since anyone has posted anything legitimately related to the subject line. Should we fork off this thread to discuss European economics? (I'm serious, actually.)
